In 1999 when I decided to go back to school for a graduate degree, I chose Naropa University which offers a master's degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology. I have previously worked as a teacher, social worker, body worker, and business woman.
My work as a psychotherapist is strongly influenced by Buddhist philosophy and meditation practice; the principles of yoga, and the deepest respect for the innate healing power of each individual. Sometimes people ask if I am Buddhist. I do not consider myself to be part of any singular spiritual tradition, though I have benefited from many. I cannot, however, imagine practicing psychotherapy without the principles and practices of Buddhism which have become integral to my view of life and humanness. I also bring to my work an understanding of energetic healing from my background as a Reiki master and teacher of qigong.
In addition to Level II EMDR, I have completed advanced EMDR training and have been doing EMDR since 2002. I began working by phone early in my practice, working with clients in their homes, offices, and vacation sites.
I balance my work as a therapist with my own inner work and contemplative practices, playing with my grandchildren, spending time in nature, and practicing qigong.
